The USTC-AASV Career Development Team is very proud to present our distinguished speakers, Dr. JenLiu, Mr. Hongyu Li and Dr. Jeffrey Wei, as the speakers for our July Mixer:"Essential Professional and Leadership Skills".  Three speakers will share with you their personal stories, and discuss the essential professional and leadership skills and how you can develop them.

Speakers:
Dr. Zheng (Jen) Liu
Dr Zheng(Jen) Liu, graduated from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California at Berkeley, is a member of the Intellectual Property Group of Orrick, Herrington& Sutcliffe LLP, one of the "Most Prestigious Firms" in the world.  Ms.Liu's practice focuses on patent and trade secrets litigation, intellectual property counseling and technology transaction across a broad range of industries, including biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical devices,diagnostics, computer networking and telecommunications. She is a member of American Bar Association and State Bar of California.  Her recent representations include Logitech Inc, Acer Inc, Microsemi Corp and D-Link Systems Inc, etc. Dr. Liu'stopic is "Marketing oneself at work: Good business writing and appropriate professional appearance". Why so many talented Chinese engineers and scientists never got promoted to positions beyond middle management?  There are many reasons.  Two key areas that can easily be improved are business communications, especially business writing, and professional appearance.  Dr. Liu will explain the general rules and use examples to show the tips of how one can improve.
 
Mr. Hongyu Li
Mr. Hongyu Li is President of Alto Semiconductors, an engineer design service firm in Silicon Valley.
In the past 15 years, Hongyu has worked on a few start-ups and big companies in Silicon Valley, Taiwan and Mainland China. Hongyu got his BS Physics from USTC and MS in Physics and MSEE from University of Kentucky and University of Minnesota respectively.
Mr. Li will share his experience on start-ups in both US and China. From his story, you will see how a Silicon Valley engineer becomes a start-up dream chaser and a successful entrepreneur. He is on the way, where are you?
 
Dr. Jeffrey Wei
Dr.Wei is Chairman and CEO of Wei Laboratories. He obtained his PhD. in Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota.  His postdoctoral training was accomplished at Massachusetts General Hospital with a Staff appointment at Harvard Medical School.  Dr. Wei also holds an MBA from the Sloan School of Management, MIT.  Dr. Wei serves as CEO of Verdant Spring, Inc and operates a website http://www.famousdoctor.org.

Dr. Wei and his wife Dr. Li were early participants in alternative medicine research during their academic careers.  They guide Wei Laboratories using a rigorous clinical research approach to understand herb-based healthcare products and to make the benefits of this research available to the general public through  product development and commercialization. 
Dr. Jeffrey Wei would like to share his experience and also try to use the collective experience of all participates to discuss issues you face at this very moment.
